Michael Carrick is under pressure after Manchester United started the new season slowly.

Manchester United's surrender of a two-goal lead in their 3-2 EFL Cup defeat to Brighton has heaped pressure on manager Michael Carrick, who will be desperate for a Premier League victory at Fulham on Sunday.

The Cottagers have fallen to two 3-2 defeats to London rivals Chelsea and Crystal Palace on the banks of the River Thames, but they should have gained some confidence from last week’s goalless draw at Liverpool.

Team news

Full-back Ryan Sessegnon looks set to undergo a fitness test, but Kenny Tete and Tom Cairney have both been ruled out.

United hope Luke Shaw and Carlos Baleba will be available but Amad Diallo, Matthijs de Ligt and Manuel Ugarte are set to miss out for the Red Devils.

The stats

Fulham are winless in their last 10 home matches against Manchester United and five of the last seven meetings between these two sides have featured fewer than three goals.

United have conceded at least twice in four of their five domestic matches this season.

The Cottagers have scored seven goals in their three home games this season, while the Red Devils have conceded twice in four of their last six away league outings.

Six of United's last eight games have featured at least three goals.

Prediction

United have to remain positive after they threw away a two-goal lead against Brighton in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, with the pressure now firmly on manager Michael Carrick and that's good news for those hoping for a few goals at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Fulham have fallen to 3-2 defeats in both of their league home games this season, against Chelsea and Crystal Palace and there is a decent chance there could be at least four goals in the contest on the banks of the Thames.

If United are to ease Carrick's predicament then Bryan Mbeumo could have a big role to play.

The Cameroon forward has had 14 attempts on goal in his four Premier League appearances this season, so there looks a decent chance that he will have at least three shots on goal in the final league game before the first international break of the campaign.

The spark for the hosts could come from Josh King, who is becoming one of the top flight's emerging stars.

He has scored in both of the Cottagers' home games this season and had four efforts on goal in last week's goalless draw at Liverpool, so he looks a decent price to get on the scoresheet once again.

Score prediction: Fulham 2-2 Manchester United
