  • Aston Villa's last two Premier League games have featured at least four goals

  • West Ham have scored in 12 of their last 13 games across all competitions

  • Recommended bet: Over 3.5 goals

There will be plenty on the line when Champions League-chasing Aston Villa entertain a West Ham side battling against relegation in the Premier League on Sunday.

Villa were being touted as potential title contenders just a few weeks ago, but a run of one win in seven league games, the three most recent of which have ended in defeat, means they instead face a battle to finish in the top five, which should be enough to ensure a return to Europe's top table next season.

West Ham may have spent the majority of the season inside the relegation zone but they are actually in better form than their hosts on Sunday and a victory at Villa Park would see them move out of the bottom three.

Team news

Having seen John McGinn and Matty Cash return to action over the last 10 days following injury lay-offs, Villa could be further boosted by the availability of Youri Tielemans, who is back in training after two months on the sidelines with an ankle issue.

That leaves Boubacar Kamara as Villa's only confirmed absentee, with the midfielder not expected to play again this season due to a knee issue.

West Ham will have to make do without Crysencio Summerville for the second week in a row as the winger continues to nurse a calf problem, although Oliver Scarles has shaken off a recent knock and is expected to be involved.

The stats

Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last seven meetings with West Ham and each of those matches have featured both teams finding the back of the net.

Villa were 3-2 winners when the teams met at the London Stadium in December, Morgan Rogers scored a second-half double that day as Unai Emery's side came from behind to snatch the points.

A run of two wins in 10 league matches has derailed Villa's title push and following three top-flight defeats on the bounce, head coach Emery is now in danger of losing four consecutive league games for the first time in his managerial career.

West Ham have accrued 15 points from their last nine matches, having picked up only 14 in their first 21 league fixtures this season.

The Hammers have only lost two of their last 12 matches across all competitions.

Prediction

A quick glance at the league table would suggest this should be a routine home victory for Villa against a struggling West Ham side, but given the contrasting form of the two teams, picking a victor is perhaps not so easy.

Instead looking at the goals market could be the way to go as each of the last seven head-to-heads have seen both teams score, including the five-goal thriller at the London Stadium in December that Villa edged 3-2.

Villa are not as free-scoring as they were back then, but they have netted in 11 of their last 13 matches across all competitions, while defensively they have looked more than a little vulnerable, conceding nine goals across their recent domestic losing streak.

West Ham come into the game on the back of score draws with Brentford in the FA Cup (2-2) and Manchester City in the league (1-1), while they have scored two or more goals in four of their last six away assignments, including in their 5-2 loss at Liverpool at the end of February.

In a game where the result is perhaps difficult to call, side with these two claret and blue teams to provide plenty of Sunday afternoon entertainment.
