  • Aston Villa have won 12 of their last 13 home games in all competitions

  • Brentford go into this game following back-to-back Premier League defeats

  • Recommended bet: Aston Villa to win

Sitting in third place in the Premier League standings going into the weekend, Unai Emery's Aston Villa continue to impress at the top end of the standings.

An impressive home record has been key for the West Midlands outfit and it is Brentford's turn to chance their arm at Villa Park on Sunday.

The Bees hardly go into this game in the best form, having lost their last two league matches, so a challenging afternoon awaits boss Keith Andrews and his side.

Team news

Villa are sweating over the fitness of England striker Ollie Watkins, after he suffered a suspected hamstring injury in the Champions League victory over RB Salzburg in midweek.

With Watkins set for scans on the issue, new signing Tammy Abraham could be in line to start for what would be another full debut in his second spell with the Villans.

Boubacar Kamara (knee), Youri Tielemans (ankle) and John McGinn remain absentees for Villa going into this game, leaving a massive hole in midfield to be filled.

Meanwhile, striker Evann Guessand has joined Crystal Palace on loan until the end of the season so is out of contention.

As for Brentford, the visitors could be without Kristoffer Ajer and Mikkel Damsgaard, with the Scandinavians both forced off during the first half of the defeat to Nottingham Forest last time out.

Sepp van den Berg and Dango Ouattara are in line to step up should Ajer or Damsgaard fail to recover in time.

Fabio Carvalho and Josh Dasilva remain as long-term absentees for the Bees.

The stats

Villa have an outstanding home record, having won 12 of their last 13 home games in all competitions.

Brentford go into this game following back-to-back Premier League defeats, losing out to both Chelsea and Forest.

Villa have never lost a home league game against Brentford in their history, a record covering 11 games since 1936.

The Villans won 3-1 the last time these sides met at Villa Park in the Premier League back in December 2024.

Prediction

Given Villa's excellent home record and the fact they have never been defeated on their own patch by the Bees, a victory for Emery's side certainly appeals at odds of better than evens.

Villa are missing important players due to injuries but, with Abraham set be a threat in the final third, the hosts should have the firepower to take down a Bees side who are staring down the barrel of a third successive defeat in the Premier League.
