Mikel Arteta will expect to see Arsenal win comfortably at home to winless Wolves on Saturday.
  • Wolves have scored on six of their last eight visits to Arsenal

  • Arsenal have kept one clean sheet in their last five Premier League games

  • Recommended bet: Arsenal and both teams to score

Arsenal's lead over Manchester City has been trimmed to just two points, but the Gunners will have every expectation of defeating basement boys Wolves in the capital.

Mikel Arteta's side maintained their 100 per cent record in the Champions League on Wednesday by easing to a 3-0 victory away to Club Brugge and they are a tough proposition at their north London base, where they have won 10 of 11 matches this season.

Man City were the last visiting team to avoid defeat at the Emirates Stadium and their exploits are unlikely to generate much encouragement for Wolves, who find themselves eight points adrift at the foot of the table.

Wolves had hoped to see some improvement under Rob Edwards, but they are on a nine-game losing sequence and were particularly poor in Monday's 4-1 loss at home to Manchester United.

Team news

Arsenal have diminished options at the back with Riccardo Calafiori serving a one-game ban and Cristhian Mosquera (ankle), Gabriel Magalhaes (thigh) and William Saliba (knock) expected to miss out.

Kai Havertz (knee) and Max Dowman are sidelined, while there are doubts over Leandro Trossard, Jurrien Timber (both knocks) and Declan Rice (illness).

For Wolves, key midfielder Joao Gomes is available after suspension, but Rodrigo Gomes (groin), Marshall Munetsi (calf), Leon Chiwone (knee) and Daniel Bentley (ankle) are out.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (unspecified injury) will have to be assessed after being forced off during Monday’s defeat to Man Utd.

The stats

Arsenal have won their last eight home fixtures and the Gunners have scored at least two goals in seven of their last eight home games.

Wolves have lost eight of their last nine Premier League away games and have gone 19 matches without winning in the Premier League.

Wolves have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 19 Premier League matches.

Prediction

Arsenal should have no problems getting the better of Wolves, but they may have to score at least a couple of goals to secure maximum points.

A visit to the league leaders looks like a recipe for disaster for Rob Edwards' basement dwellers, who seem to be devoid of confidence and were totally outclassed in Monday’s 4-1 defeat at home to Man Utd.

However, Wolves managed to score against the Red Devils and they are not without hope of finding the net against the Gunners, who are expected to be missing at least three members of their first-choice defence.

Arsenal were comfortable winners away to Club Brugge on Wednesday, but they have conceded six goals in their last five Premier League games and may fall short of a shutout this weekend.
