Pedro Porro can have a statement game when Tottenham face Leeds
Archie Gray would honestly make the most sense this weekend as the starting right back for Tottenham Hotspur vs. Leeds United, and it's not just because of the revenge angle in facing his old team. Spurs figure to dominate possession again, just as they did last weekend vs. Crystal Palace, and Gray as an auxillary midfielder on the right side could help Spurs control the game even more, giving Pedro Porro an additional bit of rest before the November international break.
But honestly, Porro might not need the rest at all. He came into the game against Palace last weekend in the second half and looked amazing. he was one of the most active players in the final third while passing the ball around with aplomb. And with all due respect to Gray, who has been great in a position that is not his own, Porro brings something else to the table that helps Spurs as a team even more - and it's easy to tell that this is his position.
Tottenham are stronger with Pedro Porro
It has not been a banner start to the 2026/27 Premier League campaign for the World Cup hero for Spain due to lingering fitness issues and then a multi week injury. The grueling World Cup has definitely taken its toll on Porro. But the timeline for his return was always Chelsea, and now that he has 45 quality minutes under his belt, it may be the time to push him a little more with a start and around 60 against Leeds United, especially since he may not have to run as ragged.
Against a highly defensive team like Leeds that likes to play on the counter, the key goal for Pedro Porro and Tottenham Hotspur will to be not getting caught out defensively. And Porro will draw the tougher matchup with Daniel James likely hovering towards his right flank as the team's leading dribbler and a pace merchant.
Going forward, this is where Porro can make his biggest statement. He hasn't really had a stellar game yet this season because of the fitness issues, but before the break, even if only off the bench, he can make a huge statement that he is ready to be back to his best for a budding Spurs juggernaut by putting in teasing crosses and supporting Mohammed Kudus with smart passes that lead him or the other forwards into scoring positions. Spurs have been waiting for Porro to be healthy, and maybe he can show the first glimpse that he is back to his best, building on a good appearance vs. Palace.
