Omar Marmoush needs to show his savvy if Tottenham want to upset Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur forward Omar Marmoush finally got off the mark on Matchday 7, scoring the second goal of the night in Spurs 3-1 win over Coventry with a smashing, curling finish into the far corner from the edge of the box.
Spurs signed Marmoush for what will be 60 million pounds at the end of the 2026/27 Premier League season to score exactly those types of goals, and they want to see more of that from him. But Marmoush wasn't just a great scorer for Eintracht Frankfurt. He could run the attack for the team, lead counters, create chances, take players on, and play like a superstar who could get points on his own against elite teams like Bayern Munich.
With Marmoush off the mark for Tottenham, more is going to be expected of the team's regular starting forward, whether he plays on the left or in the center - tandem with Dominic Solanke up top or on his own.
Omar Marmoush needs to be a veteran forward
Chelsea do not have a world class defense, and with Marmoush expected to be a second striker off the left, he may go up a lot against Josh Acheampong on the right side of the Blues defense. Acheampong is one of the best young center backs in Europe and already a quality player for his team, but he is not experienced and can get caught out with lapses.
Omar Marmoush needs to show his savvy as a left forward and left winger. He needs to take his game to another level after the goal with his positioning and really take advantage of going up against a Chelsea defense that still feels like it is nowhere near gelling. Discombobulation at the back is the best friend of an explosive forward like Marmoush, and he has to match his raw skills with the smarts that made him one of the Bundesliga's most dangerous forwards - and the kind of player both Pep Guardiola and Roberto De Zerbi badly wanted for their teams.
The key for Marmoush is going to be winning the battle off the ball in terms of his timing of the runs he makes and where he goes to receive the passes from James Maddison, Sandro Tonali, and the midfielders and defenders in transition.
There is a lot of talent in terms of passing and progression of the ball, and if Marmoush can send Acheampong and the Chelsea defense the wrong way with the drop of a shoulder and get that inside leverage, he can have at least another curler in him on Saturday.
