Odegaard urges Arsenal to bounce back after shock Fleetwood defeat: “We have a big game at the weekend”
Martin Odegaard has admitted Arsenal were 'not at our level' after they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Fleetwood Town.
The Gunners' run in the competition ended in the fourth round, after a huge upset at Highbury Stadium. Fleetwood progressed on penalties after a 1-1 draw, in a fixture that saw 16-year-old Max Dowman sent off for the Gunners.
Arsenal now have one fewer route to silverware this season, while the club's wait for League Cup success will extend into a 35th year.
Odegaard did not hide from the performance when he gave his reaction to the club's official website after the defeat.
Martin Odegaard: Arsenal 'not at our level' in Fleetwood cup exit
"It's very frustrating to go out. Obviously, the way we’ve played was not on the level. We need to do much, much better than we did today.
"Frustrating, but congratulations to Fleetwood and we look forward to the next game already and bounce back.
"They did well so we have to give them credit, but I think today was about us not being on our level, we need to do better. I thought we improved during the game, but again, we need to step up even more - so that’s a shame.
"We can't feel sorry for ourselves. We need to move on - we have a big game at the weekend [Liverpool], so bouncing back at the weekend is all we can do now."
