Noah Okafor strikes 97 seconds after coming on to seal Leeds’ win over Tottenham
Noah Okafor has said he was delighted after coming off the bench to score the winner in Leeds United's 1-0 win over Tottenham at Elland Road.
Okafor struck the decisive goal just 97 seconds after his introduction, the quickest goal by a substitute this Premier League season.
The Switzerland international combined with fellow substitute Harry Wilson, stepping past the outstretched leg of Rodrigo Bentancur to fire home.
Leeds had had the better chances, with Okafor's winner the perfect response to last weekend's disappointing defeat at Bournemouth. The win moves Daniel Farke's side up to eighth.
Speaking to TNT Sports at full-time, Okafor and Wilson spoke on their determination to make an impact from the bench.
"All I wanted was to help the team as much as I can. So of course I'm happy about the goal but more happy for the three points," Okafor said.
"We knew it wasn't going to be easy. Tottenham have been on a really good run, in the end it was a hard fight. But I would say we had some chances, especially in the second half, and the home fans pushed us. We had a lot of set pieces, free kicks. But I would say we're really happy with the performance and of course for the three points."
Wilson added that the message from Daniel Farke was clear as Leeds sought a late breakthrough.
"I think his [Okafor's] impact was a bit bigger than mine, mine was just a touch off the hip. When you get on as a sub at 0-0, you're just trying to look for that moment to get the team the winner. And when the ball fell to this guy, fantastic first touch and then a great finish.
"[Farke] Just told us about making an impact, trying to find that moment. I think we were on top in the game, especially in the second half. And we were just waiting for that moment."
