Michael Carrick expects to remain Manchester United boss despite nine-game winless run
Michael Carrick believes he will still be in charge of Manchester United after the weekend despite the club's winless run extending at Chelsea.
Manchester United lost 2-0 at Chelsea in the Premier League, with goals from Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer securing success for the West Londoners.
The defeat extends Manchester United's winless run to nine games across all competitions, the club's longest run without a win for 38 years. Defeat was also a third straight loss.
Carrick appears in a precarious position, ahead of Tuesday night's Champions League clash with Roma at Old Trafford.
The 45-year-old admitted that 'things have gone against' his side in recent weeks, but believes he will still be in charge next week.
"There is a lot of emotion, we're a great football club, and we want to win football matches. The supporters come, make a lot of effort, pay a lot of money to watch us play. You can see from today the boys had the game in the right place and things have gone against us," Carrick said to TNT Sports.
"Things have gone against us, and gone against us in a big way. Unravelled quickly. A lot of emotion right now.
"We have got to move forward and take the things that worked for us today. A lot of the good things, especially in the first half and use that moving forward.
Asked if he thinks he will be in charge of the next game against Roma, Carrick added: "Yes."
Lisandro Martinez's red card was a major turning point in the game, as the Argentine defender was dismissed for two needless bookings in quick succession.
Martinez and Carrick did not acknowledge each other as the defender left the pitch, and the United boss admitted the red card was decisive.
"It has a major importance on the game. A huge moment. I think that is pretty obvious really."
