Mathys Tel has another reason to break out more as a scorer for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are just begging for someone, anyone, to break through and be the man in front of goal for them, because that is the last thing they are missing in order to turn all of their dominance in possession into destroying teams on the pitch.

Even with their finishing issues, Spurs are now winners of three straight and looking like a good bet to finish back in the Champions League places. And lately, their best attacking threat has been young left winger Mathys Tel, who was reinserted into the starting 11 against rivals Chelsea last weekend against some odds and immediately rebounded.

Tel not only had a great all around performance in terms of taking players on, but he also scored a brilliant goal to put the game away late at 2-0, finishing with aplomb after a remarkable and much more incisive solo run. Although he did not get another one for Spurs against Crystal Palace, he was, once again, the top forward on the pitch, leading the way with four chances created and six dribbles completed in another complete display.

Mathys Tel is one step closer to French glory

Now, Zinedine Zidane is taking notice, as the French national team manager has called up young Mathys Tel for a pre selection to the French squad ahead of the November international break. Tel has a prolific scoring record with the French youth teams, including 17 in 24 games for the U21s, but he has yet to ever make an appearance for Les Bleus senior squad.

Perhaps that is on the verge of changing, and the real stor here for Tel is that the greatest player in the history of the French national team knows him. Now, Tel is not some unknown, of course, as he is a top prospect who once played for Bayern Munich and is now the best starting left winger for one of the biggest clubs in England - and in Europe as a whole.

But to have Zinedine Zidane specifically want Tel in his squad after a couple of big performances in his return to the lineup is massive. That is the sort of confidence boost that is real and can lead to equally tangible results on the field for a player who feeds off confidence. Tel is working with two strong personalities and great coaches with totally different backgrounds and styles, and Zidane's endorsement can give him more confidence to be incisive, shoot, and grab the goals that Tottenham Hotspur so desperately crave from him.
