Maresca bemoans avoidable errors as Aston Villa end Manchester City's unbeaten run
Enzo Maresca has insisted Manchester City did not deserve to lose after the club's unbeaten league run came to an end at Aston Villa.
Nicolas Jackson scored both goals for Aston Villa to secure a 2-1 win at Villa Park, either side of Erling Haaland's response for the visitors.
Jackson blasted Villa ahead inside six minutes, lashing in past Gianluigi Donnarumm after John McGinn pounced on an error from Marc Guehi.
After getting back into the game after half-time, City will be frustrated by the concession of a second. Donnarumma allowed Jackson's effort to squirm through him in another defensive mistake.
It's a fourth consecutive Premier League loss at Villa Park for the Cityzens, and a first league defeat of Maresca's reign.
Reflecting at full-time, Maresca was pleased with his side's overall performance but said City were punished for avoidable errors.
"Performance overall was good. Amount of chances we created. Second half we only conceded the transition of the goal," he said to TNT Sports.
"Sometimes you have to defend a bit better or be a bit more lucky in that transition but it's football. We learn from that and move on."
Asked directly if Aston Villa's goals were avoidable, he added: "Absolutely, both. Sometimes you have to be a bit more lucky because we only conceded those two chances. But we created a lot of chances.
"We had many chances. We played most of the game in their box but you have to be clinical and avoid mistakes like the two goals we conceded."
