Manchester United boss Michael Carrick calls for urgent verdict on Manchester City’s financial breaches
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has called for a swift decision on potential sanctions for Manchester City, following the club's financial breaches.
Manchester City have been found guilty of historical breaches of the Premier League's financial rules, dating from a period between 2009 and 2018. An independent commission has passed a guilty verdict on the Cityzens, who could face unprecedented punishment from the Premier League.
City's charges include artificially inflating revenues by around £830m, allowing for a period of spending which turned the club into serial trophy winners.
Carrick was part of the Manchester United side beaten to the Premier League title by City in 2012 and 2018.
Asked about the bombshell news from the international break, Carrick said he has his 'own questions' about the events and called on all parties to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.
"Very difficult to say in many ways. It's thrown up a lot of questions, some have had answers, some haven't. As it's still ongoing, and we don't how long it's going to go, there's only so much I can say," he said at his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend's fixture against Tottenham.
"Certainly I've got my own questions about it, it's affected me personally in different ways over a period of time. But as the case is going now I don't know where that stands and how it's going to end up, so we'll just have to wait and see.
"What I will say, the sooner it gets sorted I think for everyone's benefit is essential.
"Speed's essential, as I just said. I think that's pretty obvious for me to sit here and say that.
"There's so many angles to look at from so many different perspectives, but really speed's essential for everyone to be clear, to be able to deal with it, to be able to move on whatever happens, I think.
"It's unprecedented, you know, a unique situation to be in this, at this level with such a huge impact in so many ways. So, we all need to know what's going to happen, really. I think that's pretty clear."
