Manchester United’s winless run stretched to six games after a 1-1 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Michael Carrick’s side got off to a good start when Bryan Mbeumo put the Reds’ ahead just after the half hour mark, finishing from Youri Tielemans’ cross.

But the visitors were pegged back early on in the second half when United’s failure to clear a corner was punished by Dominic Calvert-Lewin from close range, with both sides settling for a share of the points.

After a fiery opening 20 minutes to the game with challenges flying in, both Bruno Fernandes and Gabriel Gudmundsson found themselves in the book, but the first real chance did not come until midway through the ha;f.

Nico Elvedi saw his header pushed away by Senne Lammens before Mbeumo had an equally good opportunity up the other end. The Cameroon international was unable to finish from a free header, but made no mistake the second time round when Tielemans’ low, first time cross found him.

Mbeumo charged ahead of James Justin, meeting the ball and sweeping home past James Trafford in the Leeds goal for his fourth league goal of the season.

The away side did well to ride the first half Elland Road storm, but that lasted just five minutes after the interval when in form Calvert-Lewin smashed in from six yards to level things up.

Tarik Muharemovic’s header from the corner fell kindly for Calvert-Lewin, who outstrengthed goalscorer Mbeumo before sending the home crowd berzerk.

The equaliser was followed by a Leeds onslaught with chances falling for both Noah Okafor and Anton Stach, but the duo blazed high and wide on the volley.

The visitors offered no real threat on the break, though Fernandes did come close to restoring the lead but his effort was dragged wide.

Leeds looked the more likely going into the final 10 minutes of the game with Daniel Farke making attacking changes but they were unable to find a late winner.

The draw leaves United in 13th having still only won just twice this season, against Ipswich and Azerbaijani side Sabah.

Next up for Carrick’s side is a trip to Como in the Champions League. Leeds travel to Sunderland next Sunday, meanwhile, having climbed up to seventh, still remaining unbeaten at home.
