Manchester United are keeping tabs on Real Sociedad and Spain star Mikel Oyarzabal, reports FootballTransfers.
United sent scouts to keep tabs on on-loan forward Marcus Rashford as Barcelona fell to a 2-1 loss at the Anoeta on Sunday night.
Rashford started the loss in the Basque Country on the bench, but came on midway through the second half to head Barcelona level with his third league goal of the season.
Barcelona, though, were unable to hold out for a result as they crashed to defeat, a reverse that ended their nine-game winning run and cut their lead at the top of La Liga to just a single point.
La Real captain on United's radar
The England international wasn’t the only player United were in attendance to watch, however, with representatives of the Premier League side running the rule over Oyarzabal.
And they will have been suitably impressed with the forward’s showing in Real Sociedad’s victory over Barcelona.
The 28-year-old scored La Real’s opener on the half hour mark, beating Joan Garcia with a fine near-post finish.
Oyarzabal’s strike was his sixth in La Liga this season, while the Spanish forward has also chipped in with an additional three assists.
Oyarzabal has a €75m release clause
United have held a long-standing interest in Oyarzabal, who has a €75m release clause in the contract extension he signed in 2023.
Michael Carrick’s side aren’t the only team interested in Oyarzabal, with Premier League rivals Aston Villa also linked with a move for the Real Sociedad captain.
A January move, however, is unlikely, with Real Sociedad reluctant to lose their prized forward in the winter window.
