Manchester United have been handed a double fitness concern ahead of their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, with Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw both absent from training on Monday.

The pair were not involved in United’s open session at Carrington as Michael Carrick’s side continued preparations for Tuesday night’s trip to Spain.

A decision is expected to be made on whether either player will travel later today.

Shaw’s absence comes after he was taken off late in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham, while Mainoo completed the game at Old Trafford.

United are already dealing with a number of injury problems, with Patrick Dorgu, Noussair Mazraoui and Benjamin Sesko among those sidelined.

There was some positive news for Carrick, however, with Matthijs de Ligt involved in training as he continues his recovery from his long-term absence.
