Man City return to winning ways with narrow victory over Leipzig
Erling Haaland struck late to earn Manchester City a dramatic 3-2 Champions League victory over RB Leipzig.
City went ahead in the 37th minute when Nico O’Reilly’s low ball across goal was turned into his own net by Castello Lukeba.
Leipzig responded quickly after the break, with Ridle Baku finding the bottom corner from a tight angle to make it 1-1 four minutes into the second half.
Enzo Fernandez restored City’s advantage in the 58th minute, powering home from Iliman Ndiaye’s delivery.
But again Leipzig hit back, this time through Antonio Nusa, who drilled home three minutes later after being picked out by substitute Christopher Nkunku.
With the game finely poised, Haaland made the decisive contribution in the 78th minute.
Elliot Anderson drove down the right before sending a dangerous ball across goal, with Haaland sliding in at the back post to make it 3-2.
The victory provided a welcome response for Enzo Maresca’s side following successive Premier League defeats to Aston Villa and Brighton.
