Manchester City are now leading the race to sign Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo next month, according to Caught Offside.

The Ghana international is one of the most coveted Premier League stars ahead of the January transfer window with a host of England’s top teams keeping tabs on the Cherries forward.

Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United have all been credited with an interest in Semenyo, however it’s City that are now at the front of the queue to land the 25-year-old.

Semenyo made a blistering start to the season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in the opening seven league outings, though he has failed to directly contribute to a goal in his last seven top-flight appearances.

Guardiola pushing to sign Semenyo

Even so, City boss Pep Guardiola is believed to be a huge fan of the Bournemouth star and is hoping his side can pip their Premier League rivals to the wideman.

The Cityzens head coach is keen to add some firepower to his frontline as the Manchester giants look to pip Arsenal to the Premier League title.

Semenyo, who penned a new five-year deal on the south coast over the summer, boasts a £65m release clause in his contract that can be triggered next month with City prepared to splash the cash for the Cherries star.

Premier League champions Liverpool are also monitoring Semenyo, and would be willing to trigger that release clause as they aim to add to their attack.

While the Reds invested heavily over the summer, bringing in the likes of Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz, head coach Arne Slot is wary about being left short of options in the final third.

Star forward Mohamed Salah has now departed the Liverpool squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, and the Merseyside giants could be without the 33-year-old for the next six games should Egypt go the distance in Morocco.

Additionally, Salah has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield in the New Year following his outburst in the wake of Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds earlier this month as the experienced forward claimed he has been “thrown under the bus” by Liverpool.

Bournemouth looking to end winless streak at Man Utd

Semenyo will hope to return to goalscoring form when Bournemouth travel to Manchester United on Monday night.

Andoni Iraola’s side make the trip to Old Trafford on a six-game winless run following their 0-0 draw with Chelsea last weekend.

However, Bournemouth have won their last two trips to United, winning both games by a 3-0 scoreline.
