Manchester City are considering a move for Crystal Palace captain and Liverpool target Marc Guehi as part of a defensive overhaul next summer, reports The Times.
Guehi will be a free agent at the end of the season when his current contract expires.
Palace had hoped to tie the 25-year-old down to a new deal at Selhurst Park, but the England international has made it clear that he won’t extend his stay in south London.
Liverpool almost signed Guehi on deadline day
Liverpool came close to signing Guehi on deadline day back in September having agreed a £35m fee with Palace for the centre-back.
The Reds also negotiated personal terms with their number one defensive target, but the deal fell through after Palace pulled the plug on the transfer at the 11th hour.
Palace targeted Brighton’s Igor Julio as a replacement for Guehi, however the Brazilian opted against a move to the south London side before securing a switch to West Ham.
Liverpool are expected to return to Palace with a bid for Guehi once the January transfer window opens.
Reds face domestic and continental competition for Palace captain
However, the defending Premier League champions will face competition for the England centre-back next month.
La Liga giants Real Madrid have been credited with an interest in Guehi, while Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich are also monitoring the former Chelsea trainee.
The pair, along with other overseas sides, are free to agree a pre-contract with Guehi as of January 1st 2026.
And the Reds have a battle on their hands if they are to convince Guehi to make the move to Anfield in the New Year.
City eyeing Guehi as part of defensive overhaul
Rivals City are courting Guehi as they ponder a defensive revamp in the summer with the injury-prone John Stones out of contract next year.
Stones, if fit, is expected to be Guehi’s centre-back partner for England at the 2026 World Cup in North America but question marks remain over his future at the Etihad Stadium.
Nathan Ake’s current deal at the Etihad Stadium expires in 18 months’ time, while Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias are the other experienced centre-back options available to Guardiola.
Guehi played the full 90 minutes as Palace fell to a 3-0 home defeat to City on Sunday.
