Luis Enrique says he hopes Manchester City can ‘avoid the sanction’
Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique has backed Manchester City and insisted their success on the pitch was deserved despite the club being found guilty of breaches of Premier League financial rules.
Speaking ahead of PSG’s clash with City, Enrique said he hopes everything “works out well” for the club, who are appealing the guilty verdict.
“There is a lot of noise around Manchester City and there is often noise around big clubs,” he said.
“We just have to wait and see what the final decision will be.
“I hope everything works out well for Manchester City because I think what they have done on the pitch has been incredible over the last few years and they certainly deserved to win on the pitch all the trophies they have won.
“Now we have to wait to see what the authorities decide or the judge is going to say.”
Enrique was also clear that, in his view, City’s achievements on the pitch should not be diminished.
“The trophies you win on the pitch remain on the pitch,” he said.
“They deserved to win that and I hope they can avoid the sanction. But we have to wait.”
Asked whether he had spoken to Pep Guardiola about the situation, Enrique added: “The things I will say to Pep I will do in private.”
