Manchester United have reportedly stepped in to prevent any further need for damage control after Lisandro Martinez’s fiery post-Atletico Madrid interview last Tuesday.

The situation has since been resolved, and the centre-half retained his starting spot for yesterday’s clash with Leeds United.

However, Samuel Luckhurst has revealed that both Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha told the press they were ‘not allowed’ to speak when making their way through the mixed zone at Elland Road on Sunday.

Harry Maguire did speak to Sky Sports at full-time, though, and was expectedly asked about his counterpart’s outburst.

He replied: “There’s been a lot of noise around the club this week, as there is every week, but more so this week. Lisandro has come out and apologised. We’ve moved on from it.

“He played today – I thought he was brilliant in the first half, so credit to him. Fingers crossed he’s not picked up a serious injury, and we can have him back for the future weeks.”

Martinez was withdrawn at the interval and replaced by Noussair Mazraoui after feeling some discomfort in his thigh.

It goes without saying that he would be a huge miss for United if he did have to spend a period on the sidelines, and, given his record since joining in 2022, you can understand why fans may be fearing the worst.

Sky shared a statistic ahead of kick-off in Yorkshire that highlighted just how dire the Argentine’s injury woes have been, as he has started just 41 of a possible 115 Premier League matches (36 per cent) for United since September 2023.

The Reds are next in action in just two days’ time when they travel to Italy to take on Como in a Champions League encounter.
