LiveScore's Wonderkid Watch: Who Are The Premier League’s Leading Young Players?

A record-breaking transfer window has come to a close, with clubs across Europe spending over £6 billion on signings across the summer.

Much of that outlay took place in the Premier League, as England’s elite sides flexed their collective financial muscle to recruit some of the world’s top talents.

That splurge included a whole host of young stars, with the likes of Johan Manzambi making the switch from Freiburg to Aston Villa and Robinio Vaz joining Hull City on loan from Roma.

Centre-back Luka Vušković also swapped Tottenham for Brighton in a £50 million deal, amid plenty of deals between the division’s rival sides.

With so many prodigious youngsters set to ply their trade in the Premier League over the coming months, we wanted to keep up with their progress during the current campaign.

That’s why we’re introducing LiveScore Wonderkid Watch, a statistical way of ranking young players by tracking their performance data throughout 2026/27.

How does LiveScore Wonderkid Watch work?

In order to be eligible for LiveScore Wonderkid Watch, outfield players must be under the age of 20 and goalkeepers younger than 21.

The amount of minutes they’ll need to play will obviously vary throughout the season, but for our 2025/26 benchmarking exercise we applied a minimum criteria of 500 minutes.

Those featuring for fewer than 1000 minutes did see their scores impacted, though, to account for a lack of regular first-team football.

Players are then assessed on a variety of metrics, which are broken down and weighted as follows:

• 50% for position-normalised core performance – over 40 different metrics analysed per position.

• 30% for role-adjusted output – key outputs like goals, assists and clean sheets, depending on the position in question.

• 20% for specialist qualities – specific and distinct features of any individual player’s game.

Each eligible youngster can only feature in our rankings once regardless of versatility, so they’ll appear in the role where they’ve excelled most in a statistical sense.

They will then be given two distinct ratings, each out of ten. The first is an Overall Score, which can be used to compare them to other players across multiple positions.

Then there is a Positional Index Score, to rank players within their position and identity who should feature in our best XI at any given time.

Finally, it is worth noting that these scores are to showcase a player’s ability at a certain point or across a season – rather than any indication of their career trajectory further into the future.

Who tops the current Premier League Wonderkid Watch rankings?

There were plenty of young stars in the Premier League last term – and that number has only grown following a summer of transfer activity.

If we look at the highest-ranked players in England’s top division since the transfer window closed last night, 19-year-old Vušković (9.04) tops the charts after a sublime season on loan at Hamburger SV from Tottenham in 2025/26.

Brighton’s new arrival will be joined in Europe’s biggest-spending league by Hull City’s Robinio Vaz, who made the move to the MKM Stadium off the back of a breakout season with Marseille and then Roma.

He is second in our table based on his performances in that campaign, registering a score of 8.22 despite only playing a modest 578 minutes.

Third-place Johan Manzambi (7.96) is perhaps a more familiar figure after impressing at the 2026 World Cup with Switzerland, as is Crystal Palace centre-back Jaydee Canvot (7.93).

Central midfielder Aladji Bamba (7.82) rounds off our current top five, after a year of first-class performances with Monaco that earned him a move to Newcastle United in July.

So why does Vušković rank so highly in LiveScore Wonderkid Watch?

Well, he posted some remarkable defensive numbers with Hamburger SV last season for starters – ranking inside the Bundesliga’s top three performers for everything from clearances completed (251) to headed clearances (153) and aerial duels won (149).

That unsurprisingly resulted in a particularly high specialist profile score for Aerial Dominance, coming in at an outstanding 97.90.

There’s also the fact that he played a sizeable 2,441 minutes and even chipped in with six league goals for Die Rothosen.

A combination of the above gave him a Europe-leading Positional Index score for a centre-back of 8.61, which was bettered by just one player across the continent.

It may not be too hard to guess who that is… Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal delivered a sky-high score of 9.40 after netting 16 LaLiga goals in just 28 appearances during 2025/26.

Notably, Yamal and Vušković were the only two players to break the 9.0 barrier in our ratings.

BlueCo’s wonderkid pipeline: Chelsea and Strasbourg account for nine players

Chelsea’s ownership group BlueCo have been busy acquiring young players since buying the West Londoners in 2022 and French club RC Strasbourg a year later.

The two teams have a remarkable nine unique inclusions in our list of 105 players, with Mamadou Sarr – currently on loan at Real Sociedad – featuring for both outfits.

That means Strasbourg account for six entries and Chelsea have four. But what’s perhaps more notable is how these are spread out across the pitch.

There are BlueCo-owned players in multiple positions, with Mike Penders in goal, Josh Acheampong operating at full-back, Sarr, Lucas Høgsberg and Jorrel Hato all centre-backs, Samir El Mourabet at central midfielder and Estêvão, Sam Amo-Ameyaw and Gessime Yassine playing on the wings.

Of those, Penders’ enjoyed the highest amount of league action in 2025/26 at 2,970 minutes, but it was Strasbourg’s 20-year-old Moroccan El Mourabet who posted the best score (7.77). The future certainly looks bright at Stamford Bridge, with so many potential stars in BlueCo’s stable.

Which club has the most players in the index?

No other club can better Strasbourg’s total of six players in our index, but Barcelona certainly come close with five representatives making the cut.

What will be most pleasing for fans of the Catalan outfit is how highly their young talents rank, though.

Yamal tops the list (as previously discussed), with prodigious centre-back Pau Cubarsí also making the top ten – placing seventh for 2025/26 with a score of 8.70.

Marc Bernal (7.94) is in 16th, too, meaning a trio of Blaugrana players rank higher than BlueCo’s top performer El Mourabet at No.19.

However, that’s not to suggest that La Masia is in any way a superior academy to the youth systems at Cobham or in Alsace.

LiveScore Wonderkid Watch is a snapshot of which players are performing well at any one moment, not a cumulative assessment of which club is producing the most talented players over time.

Premier League clubs are already targeting the index’s leading wonderkids

With the Premier League’s superior spending power, it is unsurprising that English clubs have been trying to hoover up the world’s best wonderkids.

That is reflected by an estimated 54 of the 105 players in our matrix (51.4%) being either purchased or credibly linked with Premier League sides over the summer.

Eleven young starlets ended up joining one the division’s 20 teams during the latest transfer window, from Manchester City signing 22nd-placed Ayyoub Bouaddi (7.52) to newly-promoted Coventry City acquiring 19-year-old ex-Angers forward Sidiki Chérif (5.51).

But not every deal got over the line. Take Saïd El Mala, who was 13th on our list and the highest-rated striker at 7.97.

Brentford are believed to have offered around £43million for FC Köln’s Germany Under-21 international, before the player rejected a switch to West London.

It will be intriguing to monitor the 20-year-old’s progress across 2026/27, to see if a transfer could materialise for him in a future window.

Clearly top-flight clubs aren’t using LiveScore Wonderkid Watch to aid their recruitment, but there is certainly some synergy between who we’ve rated highly and who is being linked with big-money moves.

Six wonderkids to look out for in 2026/27

Yesterday’s transfer deadline means we now know where the best young players will be showcasing their abilities this season – until January rolls around, of course!

So who should we be keeping an eye on in 2026/27?

Bayern Munich teenager Lennart Karl is of particular interest. He ranked sixth with a score of 8.71 last term, despite only playing 1,282 league minutes for Vincent Kompany’s outfit.

That didn’t stop him from becoming our index’s leading No.10, though, suggesting even bigger things may be in store for the 18-year-old with more game time this season.

Elsewhere, the aforementioned Vaz is an intriguing addition to Hull City’s ranks after their strong start to life in the Premier League, while Barcelona’s Bernal could climb even higher than 16th if he can earn consistent starts at Camp Nou.

Big things will be expected of Moroccan sensation Bouaddi, too, after Manchester City paid Lille an eye-watering £86 million to secure his services.

That’s also true of Rio Ngumoha, 17, who has featured in both of Liverpool’s league games under Andoni Iraola – starting in the opening round 2-2 draw at Newcastle United before coming off the bench at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Strasbourg midfielder El Mourabet is another player worth monitoring, as the highest-ranked among BlueCo array of potential stars (19th with 7.77).

And let’s not forget those who did not even make last season’s list. Arsenal’s Max Dowman didn’t play enough to qualify, for example, but the 16-year-old is surely primed to make a much bigger impact this time around.

He scored once, attempted six shots, created four chances and completed six take-ons despite only featuring in the Premier League for a paltry 153 minutes in 2025/26. Just imagine the numbers he is likely to post across a far greater sample size.

As with every inclusion in LiveScore Wonderkid Watch, the above players’ rankings in our index will be determined by how much they play, their roles on the pitch and how their specialist strengths translate when assessed over the course of an entire campaign.

The Wonderkid Watch Best XI

Using our Positional Index Score, it is possible to determine a LiveScore Wonderkid Watch Best XI for 2025/26.

Set out in a 4-3-3 formation, Lens stopper Robin Risser (8.46) is between the sticks, marshalling a back line that features Sascha Britschgi (Parma – 6.42) and Davide Bartesaghi (AC Milan - 8.84) in the full-back positions.

Cubarsí (8.70) and Vušković (9.04) take the centre-back slots, in front of a three-man midfield containing Manzambi (7.96), Paris Saint-Germain’s Warren Zaïre-Emery (8.78) and Karl (8.71).

In attack, new Real Madrid signing Yan Diomande (8.73) and Yamal (9.40) flank El Mala (7.97), to complete a line-up that would whet the appetite of any football fan across the globe.
