Mexico wonderkid Gilberto Mora appears to have said ‘yes’ to joining Liverpool next year following significant interest from Andoni Iraola’s side.

The 18-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks, while fellow Premier League giants Arsenal are also believed to be closely tracking his progress as they look to rival the Reds for his signature.

Mora, who made his first-team debut for Club Tijuana at just 15 years old, caught the eye for Mexico at the World Cup and he has scored five goals in just seven Liga MX games so far this season.

It’s understood that a fee of at least €35 million will be required to tempt Tijuana into selling Mora next year, but Liverpool are reportedly ready to match this valuation and they have now received encouragement to step up talks over a deal.

In a video posted on social media, fans can be heard shouting Mora’s name while asking “Liverpool?” After initially waving at the supporters, Mora then smiled and gave a thumbs-up in response to the question, before walking down the tunnel.

It may prove inconsequential, but Mora appears to have approved a move to Liverpool, and the Reds have been tipped to intensify their pursuit of his signature following his 18th birthday earlier this month.

Will Liverpool sign Gilberto Mora?

Mora, 18, is regarded as one of the best talents to emerge from Mexico in years and he is expected to join a European giant at some point soon, with Liverpool among the leading contenders.

The teenager already has 13 senior caps for his country and he received glowing praise from England boss Thomas Tuchel earlier this year. Speaking to reporters ahead of the Three Lions’ last-16 clash against Mexico at the World Cup this summer, Tuchel admitted: “We are not surprised, we have seen his [Mora’s] quality.

“It's very impressive, he's a very young and talented player. He doesn't get nervous on the biggest stage. He's a top player.”

While Mora is set for a storied career if he reaches his potential, it’s unlikely that he would immediately become a key player at Liverpool, and he could feasibly be sent out on loan before making an impression at Anfield.

However, Arsenal are firmly in the race to sign him too and a major transfer battle could be set to commence in 2027, with Barcelona also among his admirers.
