Ever since Arne Slot took over from Jurgen Klopp at the start of the 2024-25 season, Liverpool's midfield has been an issue.

Even though the German managed to figure out a system that worked, it still wasn't perfect.

Fabinho's exit is one of the main problems that the Reds have faced recently with the club failing to sign his replacement almost three years later.

Indeed, some youngsters such as Stefan Bajcetic, Tyler Morton and Ryan Gravenberch have all been used to try and plug the gap but, nothing compares to having a natural number six in that role.

Fans have known that some serious money needs to be spent on their midfield for some time now but, for one reason or another, other areas of Liverpool's squad have been focused on instead.

But now, that seems like it's all about to change.

Liverpool are ready to battle Chelsea for the transfer of Lamine Camara

Lamine Camara's situation was a bit of a funny one in the summer.

Throughout most of the transfer window, he was linked with an exit from AS Monaco.

And, by deadline day, a deal was agreed with Chelsea and it looked like the Senegal international was going to make the move.

However, at the last minute, the Ligue 1 outfit pulled out of the deal with some journalists, such as Ben Jacobs speculating that Liverpool were the reason why Filipe Luis' men pulled out of the transfer.

Obviously, this left a sour taste in Chelsea's mouths but now, according to an update from Footy Africa, both clubs are going to go to war in January for Camara's transfer.

"Former Premier League champions Liverpool have become the latest club to show strong interest in signing Camara in the winter and are ready to battle Chelsea for the signature of the young Senegalese midfielder," they wrote.

"Andoni Iraola’s men failed to add a marquee signing in midfield over the summer and will now be keen to strengthen as they look to boost their title challenge.

"Additionally, the uncertainty over the future of Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is also expected to push their interest, especially as the former Brighton star could depart next summer."

Lamine Camara would be perfect for Liverpool

Of all the midfielders that Liverpool have been linked with, Camara would easily be one of their best options.

Although he wouldn't be homegrown, with Wataru Endo, Federico Chiesa and Kostas Tsimikas all likely to leave by the end of the season, those non-homegrown spots among the Reds' ranks will soon open up.

Signing Camara would obviously cost the Reds a decent chunk of change as, since the summer transfer window slammed shut, he's only got better.

And, since Chelsea are still eager to sign him, there's obviously going to be a bit of a scrap to get a deal for him over the line.

He's a natural defensive midfielder, can run forever and wins the vast majority of the duels that he attempts.

All of these skills are why he'd be perfect for Liverpool, even if he is likely to cost them an arm and a leg.
