Liverpool Draw Up Three-Man Centre-Back Shortlist Amid Konate Contract Uncertainty

Liverpool have drawn up a three-man shortlist as they consider whether to replace centre-back Ibrahima Konate next month, reports Caught Offside.
Konate’s current deal at Anfield expires at the end of the season and the Frenchman is yet to agree terms on an extension with the Premier League champions.
Liverpool are keen to retain the services of the France international, though are aware that Konate can agree terms on a pre-contract with overseas sides from January.
Ligue 1 giants PSG and La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid have both been credited with an interest in the former RB Leipzig man.
As such, Arne Slot’s side have drawn up a three-man shortlist as they weigh up their defensive options in the New Year.
Liverpool's three-man shortlist revealed
Marc Guehi is among those wanted by the club, with the England international, like Konate, out of contract in the summer.
Guehi came close to a deadline day move to Liverpool back in September, but Crystal Palace pulled the plug on the move at the 11th hour as they were unable to secure a replacement for their captain.
The defender is expected to leave in January, with Anfield a potential destination for Guehi, however Liverpool do face competition for the centre-back.
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also known admirers of Guehi, and will push to agree terms with the 25-year-old ahead of a potential move next summer.
Rennes youngster Jeremy Jacquet is another centre-back wanted by Liverpool as the 20-year-old continues to thrive in France.
Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck has also emerged as a potential target for the Reds with ongoing contract issues between player and club altering suitors.
Reds priority is to extend Konate's contract
Liverpool remain hopeful that they can agree personal terms with Konate in the coming months as they aim to keep one of the star players from last season’s domestic success.
The Reds ended a testing week on a high as a Hugo Ekitike brace saw the Merseyside giants ease to a 2-0 home win over Brighton on Saturday afternoon.
Ekitike’s second goal was assisted by Mohamed Salah, who was left out of the Liverpool squad for the midweek Champions League victory at Inter following his bombshell interview in the wake of the Reds’ 3-3 draw at Leeds last weekend.
