Liverpool still have a lot of decisions to make this season.

The Anfield outfit are currently fifth in the Premier League and, although they may have only lost one game in England's top flight, it's clear that they're still not back to their best yet.

Other clubs such as Manchester City and Arsenal have managed to get straight back to their best with both clubs fighting it out at the top of the table.

Indeed, there are only nine points that separate Manchester City and Liverpool at the moment but, if other clubs in the top flight don't manage to slow Enzo Maresca's men down, there's no way the Reds will be able to chip away at that gap.

Obviously, since they've got a new manager and a fair few new players, it might take some time for them to start properly performing.

But, to help them along the way, some transfers could be made to try and improve the performances of their first-team squad.

Liverpool are unlikely to sign Ronald Araujo permanently

One of Liverpool's best performers this season has been Ronald Araujo.

The centre-back was signed out of necessity during the summer thanks to the injury suffered by Conor Bradley.

Originally, a new right-back/centre-back wasn't on the cards for the Anfield outfit but, now that he's here, fans are more than happy to have him.

He's brought another layer of defensive stability to Liverpool's back line and, without him, the Reds would have been in some serious trouble.

And, even though most of Liverpool's fans want to bring him in permanently at the end of his season-long loan deal, BBC Sport have just revealed that the Uruguayan is seen as more of a "stopgap solution" than a long-term option.

"At Barcelona last season, Araujo was granted a leave of absence to prioritise his mental health and the move to England in the summer felt like one that suited all parties - even if he was initially seen as a stopgap solution for Liverpool," they wrote.

"Araujo, who has 29 caps for Uruguay, took a wage cut and Liverpool have an option to buy him in the summer for £47m.

"It is a hefty sum and remains an unlikely outcome, but the understanding for now is that Araujo is just happy to show his qualities to everyone once again.

"Liverpool did not initially plan to bring in Araujo this summer, but given their injury crisis were forced to act and his abilities have largely benefited Iraola this season."

Liverpool signing Ronald Araujo doesn't look like it will happen

Even though Araujo has been described as an "extraordinary" player by Barcelona legend Carles Puyol, that alone isn't enough to convince Liverpool to sign him.

At the moment, he's probably been one of the Reds' best defenders and, it's hard to imagine Iraola's starting XI without him in it.

Of course, if Bradley returns from injury and goes straight back to his old self, there wouldn't be that much need for Araujo but, if he returns and fails to live up to expectations or even gets injured again, right-back is going to be a major problem for Liverpool again.

The £47 million option to buy that Liverpool have for the 27-year-old is probably one of the main things putting them off signing him so, if they can manage to knock that price down, that could put the deal back on the table.

But for now, with things going as they are, the future of Araujo seems to lie away from L4.
