Andoni Iraola still has a lot of work to do on Liverpool's first-team squad.

The Spaniard may have helped Richard Hughes spend over £150 million on new players in the summer but, that still wasn't really enough to get the Reds back to where they needed to be.

Indeed, Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo have massively changed the fortunes of the Liverpool defence and made them much more solid but, because the team have barely scored any goals, they're not really reaching the peak of their powers yet.

This has led fans to believe that plenty of change is afoot with one new player now being personally admired by Iraola.

Liverpool are ready to splash £30 million on Daniel Banjaqui

Daniel Banjaqui is one of Europe's most sought-after young defenders.

He's only 18 years old but, the fact that Jose Mourinho trusted him to be a regular part of his Benfica squad last term proves how good the youngster actually is.

Last term, he featured in three games across all competitions and this season, he's taken a massive step up and has already featured in another three.

Although that may not fill fans with confidence, the fact that he's even playing games for SL Benfica is massive.

Obviously, £30 million is a lot of money for someone who has only played in six professional games across his career but, with the potential he has, it could be a worthwhile investment.

"Chelsea and Liverpool are both interested in signing a young Portuguese right-back who could move for a base fee of around £30m, though interest in the player is exploding," TEAMtalk wrote.

"In the Premier League, Chelsea and Liverpool have been among the clubs most active in tracking him.

"Chelsea’s interest is said to have been heightened by fitness concerns surrounding Reece James and the club aims to find the best young talent, while Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola is understood to be and admirer.

"Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton have also been named as interested parties by sources, alongside Manchester United, Newcastle United and Arsenal.

"Sources have added he is not just being tracked in England."

Daniel Banjaqui would probably be a risk worth taking for Liverpool

One of the main things Liverpool to have wanted to do over the last couple of years is prepare their squad for the future.

Although they have significantly invested in their first-team squad, their academy ranks have also had a decent chunk of change spent on them.

Ifeanyi Ndukwe, Samuel Martinez and Mor Talla Ndiaye are just a few examples of players that Liverpool have chosen to sign for their academy over the last couple of years.

And, although Banjaqui would probably be thrusted straight into the Reds' first-team plans, he'd likely need some time to adjust to England with the youth ranks before he features in Iraola's starting XI.

£30 million is obviously a lot of money with Liverpool even managing to sign Victor Munoz for just £4 million more than that in the summer.

However, with how much potential he has and how many other clubs from around the world want to sign him, it could be a risk worth taking for the Reds.
