Liverpool are ready to admit defeat on one high-profile signing. Julian Ward is putting in the work to replace the player.

Liverpool made a lot of signings since winning the Premier League. Hundreds of millions have gone out on new players and while we’ve certainly seen plenty of sales, they don’t come particularly close at outweighing the signings.

It’s been an overhaul, in other words. Richard Hughes led the charge, moving on loads of players, typically homegrown, and replacing with high-profile signings.

How many of those arrivals have actually worked out? That’s a point of contention and it really depends on what counts as ‘worked out’. There’s a reasonable argument that none of them having, quite honestly.

But one in particular looks like a bust and Liverpool are reportedly ready to move on.

Liverpool to move on from Jeremie Frimpong

Football Insider reports that Liverpool are ready to move on from Jeremie Frimpong. Sporting director Julian Ward is weighing up new right-back targets to take over from the Dutchman, who joined the Reds in 2025.

That was from Bayer Leverkusen where Frimpong had notably played as a wingback rather than a full-back. Many saw that as a problem but Liverpool seemingly didn't.

But the Reds were wrong. It's undoubtedly been a problem, with Frimpong struggling to nail down the game of a full-back with far less space than a wing-back.

The injury to Conor Bradley has made things somewhat worse. Liverpool were forced to try and rely on Frimpong but quickly decided they couldn't - and it's now two head coaches in a row who came to that decision.

It's shone a very, very bright light on Frimpong's inability to be the first-choice right-back. That in turn asks questions of what his role in the squad actually is if he can't play the role he was bought for.

And so it seems Liverpool will try to move on. Just a few months left for Frimpong to save his Anfield career, then.
