Liverpool generally have a pretty good record in the transfer market.

Over the past decade the Reds have recorded a lot more ‘hits’ than they have ‘misses’ when it comes to signing players.

Some of the best value Premier League transfers ever have come in this period, see Andy Robertson and Mo Salah, but the club has still made its mistakes.

Some of those errors have been overpaying for certain players, but others have been not bringing targets in at the right time and then missing out.

One such target is Michael Olise, who joined Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace for just £50 million in 2024.

The Reds must learn from that mistake.

Liverpool cannot repeat Michael Olise mistake

Two years on from Olise's move to Bavaria the Frenchman is being linked with a staggering £150 million move back to the Premier League or Real Madrid.

Any clubs interested in Olise now will look back and kick themselves knowing that they could’ve saved themselves £100 million had they acted 24 months earlier.

There is absolutely a lesson to be learned from this for Liverpool, who should now be looking at the talent available across the Premier League and trying to recruit before they move on.

Somone like Kevin Schade is the perfect example. The German has been quality for Brentford since his arrival in the Premier League and looks ready to make the next step.

Liverpool could let him move on to another top team abroad, but they will then likely have to pay a hefty premium if they do ever want to bring him to Merseyside.

Schade isn’t the only player that falls into that bracket, there are examples of players at almost every single team in the division who look ready to step up to a top team, and Julian Ward must not make the same mistake again.
