Ronald Araujo has been one of Liverpool's best signings this season.

The defender came to Anfield on a season-long loan in their time of need.

Most people thought that he would just be a back-up option that could cover centre-back and right-back if needed.

However, his stellar performances since the start of the campaign have led to him making the right-back spot his own with others such as Jeremie Frimpong and Joe Gomez failing to displace him.

As mentioned, he's only on a season-long loan at the moment with Liverpool's option to buy worth somewhere around €55 million.

This price tag has created a bit of a stumbling block for the Reds with a decision on his future now potentially being made.

Liverpool may sign Nmamdi Collins instead of Ronald Araujo

Liverpool's defence has been a major topic of conversation over the last couple of years.

Whether it's been players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving or fans questioning why they spent £55 million on Jeremy Jacquet, the Reds' defence has always been a huge topic.

And, with Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Gomez's contracts all expiring in June 2027, it's going to remain at the centre of attention for some time.

Figuring out what's going to happen with their current crop of players is likely to be one of the main things holding up a deal for Araujo.

But, as per a fresh update from Fussball News, a totally different target than the Uruguayan seems to have just made his way onto Liverpool's shortlist.

"According to information from fussball-news.de, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool are all seriously interested in the Frankfurt defender. All three Premier League clubs are monitoring his development and regularly scout the young German international," they wrote.

"A departure from Frankfurt in the near future doesn't seem likely. The club from Hesse is planning for the long term with Collins and only recently secured his services with a contract extension until the summer of 2030.

"Nevertheless, the defender could become an interesting prospect in the upcoming transfer windows. "Collins' versatility is a major draw for top English clubs. The right-footed player can be deployed both in central defense and on the right side of defense.

"In addition, he possesses exceptional speed, physical presence, and tackling skills. Collins can particularly exploit his athletic strengths against fast attacking players."

Nmamdi Collins would be a better option for Liverpool than Ronald Araujo

Right now, fans would hate to see Araujo not get given a permanent deal.

However, since he'll be 28 years old by next summer, he may not have all that long left at the top.

Obviously, if his performances keep to this same level throughout the entire campaign, Liverpool will have to heavily consider signing him permanently.

But, it certainly won't hurt for them to weigh up their options.

Collins is much less experienced than Araujo and hasn't tried his luck outside of the Bundesliga yet but, since he's so important for Eintracht Frankfurt despite only being 22 years old, he's clearly an exceptional talent.

The report from Fussball News also goes on to say that a fee worth around €35 million is all that would be required for Liverpool to sign him.

This price tag is a much lower risk to Liverpool and since he's still so young, he could very easily grow to become an even better player than he already is.

At the moment, nobody knows what the Reds are going to do but, if their back line isn't a major area of focus again in the upcoming transfer windows, it'll be a massive shock.
