Liverpool launch recruitment mission for Alisson successor
Liverpool's number one spot has been undisputed for close to a decade.
When Alisson arrived from Roma for a then world record fee for a goalkeeper it was clear that the club felt they had found their man.
The Brazilian has one of the very best 'keepers in the world during his time at Anfield, and there has never been any doubt over his position in the squad.
The 34-year-old is now into the final months of his deal and is currently set to leave Merseyside for free in the summer.
Replacing him will be a priority, and the Reds are already reportedly putting the work in.
Liverpool eyeing Alisson replacement
It will be no easy task succeeding one of the greatest goalkeepers the Premier League has ever seen, but the Reds need to find the man for the job.
Giorgi Mamardashvili will be an obvious contender, with the Georgian already at the club, and Lucca Brughmans is another option, with the 18-year-old signed for a substantial fee last summer before returning to Genk on loan.
A fresh report has now suggested that Liverpool could turn to the transfer market once again to fill the void left by Alisson however.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool have set their sights on Brighton 'keeper Bart Verbruggen ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Dutchman, who has been on the radar at Anfield for quite some time, has admirers from all round Europe but Liverpool could be the ones to tempt him away from the Amex.
The 24-year-old has already recorded six clean sheets in nine Premier League appearances this season, and has been a huge part of the Seagulls early season success.
Real Madrid are also reported as a potential suitor for Verbruggen should he leave Brighton, and although no price tag is mentioned by Football Insider it would likely take a hefty fee to secure his services.
Valued at €46.6 million (~£39m) by FootballTransfers, the Netherlands international is entering the final 18 months of his deal and Brighton could be tempted to cash in.
If Alisson does move on from Merseyside this summer then Verbruggen could be the man in line to take his place.
