Liverpool Handed Major Isak Injury Scare After Striker Forced Off in Spurs Win

Liverpool fear that striker Alexander Isak sustained a suspected broken leg during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham, reports the Athletic.
The Reds earned a third successive competitive victory as they returned to Merseyside with all the spoils on Saturday evening.
Isak put the defending champions ahead in the 56th minute, his second league goal of the season, before Hugo Ekitike added a second 10 minutes later.
Richarlison set up a nervy finish but Arne Slot’s side managed to hold out for a key three points in north London.
Isak brought down awkwardly after goal at Tottenham
However, Liverpool are sweating over the fitness of Isak, who was forced off shortly after putting the Reds in front.
The Sweden international, who came on at the break over the weekend in place of Conor Bradley, was awkwardly brought down by Spurs centre-back Micky van de Ven after getting his shot away.
After receiving lengthy treatment by the Liverpool medical staff, Isak was helped off the pitch in clear discomfort and was replaced by Jeremie Frimpong.
Another spell on the sidelines will come as a blow for both Liverpool and Isak, who has struggled for fitness since his big money arrival from Newcastle.
Sweden star has struggled for fitness since joining
Isak completed his record-breaking move to Liverpool on deadline day in September after months of speculation linking the striker with a move to Anfield.
The 26-year-old went on strike to force a move away from St. James’ Park, meaning he missed all of pre-season.
As a result, Isak has rarely featured for Arne Slot’s side, making just six league starts for Liverpool.
Isak was one of a number of new arrivals at Liverpool over the summer, with Ekitike and Florian Wirtz also joining from Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen, respectively.
Wirtz has also struggled for consistency following his arrival, with his assist for Isak on Saturday his first direct goal involvement in the Premier League.
Slot encouraged by Wirtz showing
And Slot was encouraged by the performance of both Wirtz and Isak, and said he hoped the latter would not be ruled out long-term.
“I haven’t spoken to him about it yet but it’s a good thing he scored, a good goal assisted by Florian Wirtz. I said players are getting better, the team is getting better,” Slot said.
“It wasn’t perfect today, especially the last 10 minutes but we pick up points and are developing in a way I want to see.
“That’s what we’d like to see happening a lot. A good finish, a good pass. Let’s not be too negative yet. We don’t know yet, let’s hope he is back with us soon.”
Liverpool are next in action on Saturday when they welcome the Premier League’s table footers Wolves to Anfield.
