Liverpool given masive update after making contact for left-back
Left-back has become a problem position for Liverpool early in Andoni Iraola's tenure.
Both Milos Kerkez and Kostas Tsimikas have struggled to fill the void left by Andy Robertson's departure, with neither performing well enough to nail down a place as a guaranteed starter.
As a result, the Reds have been constantly linked with several top left-back prospects ahead of the winter window.
It appears the position has become a priority for the recruitment team in L4, but Liverpool won't have it easy.
A fresh report has now clarified just how difficult things could be for Iraola's side in the winter window.
Liverpool told no after making contact for left-back
El Hadji Malick Diouf has been a standout prospect in the Premier League since he arrived at West Ham in 2025.
The Reds have been monitoring the Senegalese defender since before he moved to England, and he remains on the club's radar.
A £40 million move to Brentford in the summer marked a big step in the 21-year-old's career, and the Bees aren't looking to move their man on anytime soon.
That's according to a report from TEAMtalk which confirmed that Brentford are not willing to listen to any offers for the left-back in the near future.
The defender remains a valued member of Brentford's team and Liverpool will need to look elsewhere if they want to reinforce their fullback options this summer.
Julain Ward could of course test Brentford's resolve with an offer for Diouf, but it would likely have to dwarf the £40 million the West London club paid in the summer.
Diouf will remain on Liverpool's shortlist regardless of what happens this winter, and could remain a long-term option depending on what action the club choose.
If the Reds can't tempt Brentford to sell in January they could wait and try again in the summer, keeping faith in Kerkez and Tsimikas in the meantime, but that could be costly.
It feels unlikely that Diouf will make a Merseyside move in the upcoming window, but nothing is impossible and the Reds will remain interested.
