Kobbie Mainoo is now expected to remain at Manchester United this month, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Mainoo was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford over the summer having been cast aside by former United boss Ruben Amorim.

However, Amorim was relieved of his duties at the Old Trafford helm earlier this month, and his departure has seen Mainoo come back into favour in Manchester.

Mainoo impressed on first league start

The 20-year-old started his first league game of the season in Saturday’s Manchester Derby win over Manchester City as Michael Carrick enjoyed a victorious return to United.

Second half goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu saw Carrick kick off his second stint as United boss with a huge three points to bolster their Champions League hopes.

Mainoo played the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 victory over title chasing City, who are now seven points behind league leaders Arsenal.

And while the youngster had been linked with a January switch to Napoli, Mainoo is expected to remain at United following Carrick’s appointment as head coach.

Carrick will remain in charge until the end of the season, and faces a tough second game as he takes his United side to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
