Julian Ward has found the sensational midfielder to save Liverpool
Julian Ward is back, and he is on a mission.
Liverpool are like a butterfly right now, waiting to come out of its cocoon. There is so much potential for something extraordinary to emerge but patience must be practised.
At the club's helm, the Reds' new sporting director in Ward has been tasked with making sure that butterfly does eventually emerge.
His first test will be the January transfer window, where a lot of Liverpool fans will want the club to be very active.
Traditionally, Liverpool have been quiet in previous winter windows. Most clubs prefer to do their business during the summer months and not halfway through the season.
However, given the need for reinforcements, Ward might just break that tradition in the upcoming window.
Liverpool's mission to sign a midfielder
The Reds definitely want to recruit a midfielder within the next few months. There's a good chance they will be prepared to bring someone in if they are available for the right price.
It's becoming increasingly obvious that Andoni Iraola is struggling to find a place for Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai in the team.
Both are on big money and long-term contracts. However, neither seem to suit the requirements to be good passing midfielders in a double pivot.
Ironically, Alexis Mac Allister who was halfway out of the door at Anfield this summer, and teenager Trey Nyoni look much better in their place.
Liverpool are interested in a number of midfielders, with Lamine Camara the one who has been the most closely monitored. But he might not the only player who could save the Reds.
Julian Ward has found Liverpool's midfield solution - Aleksey Batrakov
The club's issues are compounded by the fact that Florian Wirtz is also struggling in the no.10 role and right now Iraola has now alternative option to use in the position.
He has tried to play Szoboszlai and Gravenberch there, but they haven't really offered much value playing there in their outings this season.
It's very obvious that Liverpool need to bring in a midfielder to challenge Wirtz and to give Iraola an alternative option.
Well, it looks like Ward has found the perfect option. Aleksey Batrakov is reportedly being very closely monitored by Liverpool.
And if his recent performances are anything to go by in the Champions League, a big move might be on the horizon from the Reds.
Batrakov has four goals in four games and 10 goal contributions in 17 matches so far this season in all competitions.
At 21-years-old he looks like the perfect player to provide competition for Wirtz and give Iraola's team a new dimension. It's why a move by Liverpool looks very likely at this stage.
