Jordan Henderson’s superb stats as “unc” runs the show against Bournemouth
Jordan Henderson put in a great performance for Chelsea this afternoon which was about more than just the two goals.
Moises Caicedo returned from injury today, and as expected Chelsea looked far better as a result.
Most people expected Romeo Lavia to partner the Ecuador star. The Belgian played really well for France in the international break, and looks as fit as he’s ever been in his time at Chelsea.
Instead it was Jordan Henderson in the middle, a slightly surprising selection. Today he showed exactly why Xabi Alonso made that call. He scored two superb goals – but his performance was about more than that.

For one thing, Henderson covered more ground than any other player on the pitch. That’s incredibly impressive for a 36 year old. He was signed for his intangibles, and today his leadership and effort seemed to make a difference to the whole team, and he led by example.
His 78 touches were second only to Levi Colwill in the Chelsea team, as were his total passes.
This is exactly what we bought him for, and it seems he’s finally able to make an impact. Despite Lavia’s good form, it’s surely impossible to drop Henderson now.
In other news…
