Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes is open to a January move to Manchester United, with a £44m fee mooted, reports Portuguese outlet Record.
Wolves have struggled in the opening weeks of the season having failed to win any of their 11 league games of the 2025/26 campaign.
A 3-0 loss to Chelsea last weekend means Wolves sit rock bottom of the Premier League with just two points to their name.
The dire start to the campaign saw Vitor Pereira relieved of his duties at Molineux, with Rob Edwards brought in to succeed the Portuguese boss earlier this month.
Gomes may seek January Molineux exit
However, a change in manager is unlikely to convince Gomes to remain in the Midlands, with the Brazilian reportedly open to a January exit.
The 24-year-old joined Wolves from Brazilian outfit Flamengo in January 2023 and has been a mainstay for the Premier League side since making the move across the Atlantic.
Gomes’ performances in an underwhelming Wolves side haven’t gone unnoticed either, with United reportedly keen on firming up their interest in the Brazil international.
United had looked into bolstering their midfield over the summer, but despite links with a move for Carlos Baleba, they failed to reinforce in the middle of the park.
Baleba, Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson all remain targets for United as they consider their options.
United identify Casemiro successor
Gomes has since emerged as another potential target for the Manchester giants, with the midfielder identified as a successor for compatriot Casemiro in a key area.
Casemiro’s current United deal expires at the end of the season, though they have the option to extend his contract by a further year.
The tough tackling 33-year-old enjoyed a fine debut season at Old Trafford, but his performance levels dipped last term.
Casemiro is enjoying a renaissance this time around having re-established himself as a first team regular under Ruben Amorim alongside captain Bruno Fernandes in midfield.
United are aware they will need to prepare for life after Casemiro, with the tough-tackling Gomes an ideal fit to replace the former Real Marid man.
Having finished 15th last season, United are currently seventh in England’s top tier, level on points with fifth-placed Tottenham and defending champions Liverpool.
Wolves, meanwhile, begin life under Edwards with the welcome of Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon as they look to claim their first league win of the season.
