The vast fee it took to sign Morgan Rogers raised eyebrows, but he’s been consistently good since joining Chelsea.

Morgan Rogers took the headlines once again at the weekend, scoring Chelsea’s opening goal in their win over Manchester United.

On Monday Night Football on Sky Sports they took a look at his season so far, with Jamie Carragher admitting that he had been unsure because of the fee, but was now convinced:

“I think it was one of those transfers in the summer, a little bit like Elliot Anderson, where we all went, ‘wow’. The figure, what was it, £117m?,” the pundit said.

Presenter David Jones jumped in to point out that was now looking a “bargain,” and Carragher agreed.

“Yeah, well it is now, isn’t it? He’s been absolutely fantastic for Chelsea and obviously the big difference at the weekend.”

Rogers shows what you can get for premium price

Most people, including us, had similar thoughts. He’s a very good player – but couldn’t you get two good players for that sort of money?

In the end though, it’s worked well. You pay a massive premium to get a player who has multiple seasons of performing in the Premier League under his belt – but in return you get a guy who can delivery from the day he arrives, and that’s just what Rogers has done.
