Newcastle United boss Matthias Jaissle is hopeful Matias Fernandez-Pardo will return to the squad for Saturday’s game against Fulham.
The summer signing has missed Newcastle’s two defeats to Everton due to suffering with a virus.
Fernandez-Pardo returned to light training over the weekend but was not considered physically ready to feature in Monday night’s 1-0 defeat.
“He was sick with a heavy virus,” Jaissle said.
“He was training yesterday for the first time, but in our perspective, he was not ready, not physically ready, to be a part of the squad.
“Hopefully, he can make progress now, but it was hitting him quite heavily.”
