An exciting South American star is coming to Liverpool, it's almost done.

Julian Ward hasn't been in his new sporting director role for a long time, but he's already having to make plans in terms of how the Reds are going to be acting in the transfer market.

January is not a long way away. We are almost into November, and when that month comes rolling around, teams are already making concrete plans in terms of how they want to go about their business in the winter window.

By November you usually have a clear picture of where you are as squad and what your weaknesses are as a team.

The truth is that Liverpool will have been aware of where they were even when the summer window ended because so many of the club's issues went unaddressed.

Liverpool's biggest squad issue exposed

Undoubtedly, the biggest problem for Liverpool is the lack of depth they have in the midfield department. Trey Nyoni has probably emerged this season as one of Liverpool's most important players alongside Alexis Mac Allister.

However, having only those two and Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai is not enough for Andoni Iraola's midfield.

It also lacks a certain defensive minded profile.

Nyoni does have the tendency to sit more and not roam forward as often. However, you can't have a squad where you don't have a player capable of winning defensive duels.

The truth is that Liverpool need a 'Fabinho type' midfielder. It's a profile they are really missing right now.

Ward is going to have to enter the market to bring the right profile in, and Lamine Camara is someone to keep a close eye on in that regard.

But he's not the only arrival who could head to Anfield.

Gilberto Mora is coming to Liverpool

Over the weekend, videos surfaced of Gilberto Mora giving a thumbs up to a Mexican fan asking him about Liverpool. It was an exciting confirmation of the South American midfielder's desire.

Obviously, earlier on in the month there were rumours that Mora to Liverpool was almost a certainty.

You put that video and those rumours together coming from Mexican sources and then add the fact that Liverpool reporters have not denied the Reds' interest but have confirmed that they are admirers of Mora, and it's easy to see what's happening here.

It very much looks like a deal for Mora is almost done, and that the Mexican midfielder will be coming to Anfield when January comes around.

It's going to be an exciting signing, but it's hopefully just one of many during a busy winter window.
