Isak praises Liverpool 'intensity' after 2-0 win over in-form Brighton
Alexander Isak believes Liverpool are beginning to show the intensity that Andoni Iraola demands after beating Brighton 2-0 at Anfield.
Isak scored the second goal after Liverpool took the lead through Pascal Gross' own goal, as the Reds claimed a fourth consecutive win in all competitions.
The Swedish striker's goal was his sixth of the Premier League season, as he turned in from Bradley Barcola's cross. The deadlock has been broken just four minutes earlier, when Florian Wirtz's strike deflected in off Gross.
Victory was Liverpool's first at home in the Premier League this season, and Isak was delighted with the manner of the result against an in-form Brighton side.
The Seagulls had won four consecutive league games without conceding before arriving at Anfield.
“For sure, it’s been way too long [waiting for a Premier League victory at Anfield] and I think it’s a great way to do it: against an in-form team, and the way we did it as well, with a clean sheet. So yeah, delighted," Isak said to Sky Sports.
"We had a lot of chances [in the] first half, where we won the ball and countered, we could have had more goals.
“Bradley did super good in that and for me it was just about being in the right place to finish it off.”
Liverpool 2-0 Brighton: Isak says first half performance is "really what we want to be about”
Liverpool next face Chelsea in the EFL Cup before a meeting with Premier League champions Arsenal next week. Isak believes the club's first-half performance needs to be the blueprint going forward.
“I think today especially the performance was really good, really solid against a really good team. The first half is really what we want to be about - intensity, winning balls and countering - so really happy, especially with the first half.”
