Is Liverpool player actually good enough? Club is torn

One club is torn on a Liverpool star. Is he actually good enough to justify the money involved?

Alisson Becker's future is up in the air. We certainly don't know what's going to happen with him and we're not sure Liverpool do, either.

His contract expires at the end of the season, of course. It was due to expire last summer but Liverpool triggered a clause that extended things another year. Even with that, speculation that Allisson could join Juventus ran rampant and it's certainly true that the Old Lady pushed to sign the player.

But Alisson stuck around and it's a good thing, too. He remains Liverpool's best goalkeeper and by some distance - if he does leave, the club is up against it to sign someone to even maintain the standards, let alone improve them.

Which is why it's quite strange that a potential destination for Alisson isn't even convinced about signing him.

Alisson Becker's future

Alisson has been linked with a few clubs but two in particular: Juventus and Flamengo. Flamengo, the biggest club in Brazil, feel best-placed to get him back in his native country.

However, Sport Witness claim the Brazilians aren’t sure Alisson is actually good enough to justify a move. They cite his performances for the national team as evidence that he’s not the elite-level goalkeeper that many think he is.

That, of course, is completely insane. Alisson has won everything at club level and any Liverpool fan who remembers that last few decades would say he’s by far the best goalkeeper the club has had since the formation of the Premier League.

So we’re in a situation where Alisson may not quite have the offers that many thought he would. Does that change things for Liverpool?

There’s surely a scenario here where paying to renew Alisson’s deal makes sense and a lack of competition will naturally drive his wage demands down. We still believe Liverpool will move on because of his age but the natural difficulty in replacing him must keep the door open to a new deal in some respect.

Flamengo fumbling their position makes it easier for Liverpool to do that.
