Iraola calls Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City “Massive” ahead of Anfield showdown
Liverpool Andoni Iraola has called this weekend's fixture against Manchester City 'massive for everyone involved'.
Liverpool welcome Manchester City to Anfield on Sunday, with both teams bidding to extend unbeaten starts to the Premier League campaign.
City arrive on Merseyside under a cloud, after an independent commission found the Cityzens guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules. City have denied the charges, and have appealed.
The circumstances are sure to fire up what is already a high-stakes fixture, as Iraola looks to put down an early marker in his reign.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Spaniard said Sunday's showdown is a massive occasion - but insisted the result will not be definitive.
"Every game is an exciting game. We are playing at home at Anfield against City who is top of the league right now. They have won all of their games and I think we will go for the game. I think it will be quite an open game and we have to be ready and also use the help from our supporters and I hope we are at the level of the game that's going to be high.
"I think it's still very early [to suggest a win would be a statement]. Whatever happens, we've just played five games but it's true that we would like to face a team like City and show our level and get the win and have a good day. It's massive for everyone involved in these type of games. It's an exciting moment."
The game it the first of four in 10 days for the Reds, who face a challenging period after the international break. Iraola said he will learn plenty about his side after the upcoming run.
"I think this run of games we have now between the international breaks, the demand of those games is really high.
"I think we play against the top four in the league, Champions League games, the Carabao Cup game against Chelsea and also very condensed. I think now it's four games in 10 days.
"I think we will see a lot about us after this run of games. We will know better where we really are."
