Manchester United have been urged to proceed with caution when handling Benjamin Sesko’s latest setback.

The forward was ruled out of United’s clash with Fulham prior to the international break, and was unable to represent Slovenia over the last three weeks.

What’s the latest on Sesko?

Sesko instead stayed at Carrington so the club could keep a close eye on his condition and have him undergo further tests.

However, United return to action this weekend when hosting Tottenham Hotspur, and there has been no indication the striker will be able to feature.

It’s thought that Sesko did not feature in the behind-closed-doors friendly United played against Lausanne-Sport a week ago, leading fans to believe he was still sidelined.

Reports have already disclosed that his problem is a reaggravation of the shin injury that ended his maiden United campaign prematurely, while Slovenia manager Bostjan Cesar said of the matter: “This isn’t an easy time for Benjamin.

“He is going through a difficult period in his career, as we know he hasn’t suffered many injuries in the past. It is an atypical injury that requires time to heal.”

Now, injury specialist Stephen Smith has told the Metro: “The risk is always there with recurrence. With injuries like this, you are playing a game of whack-a-mole.

“They can be very challenging. The first thing you try isn’t always going to be the thing that works. They will be assessing what they did the first time around and now looking at different options. I would be confident they won’t just be doing the same thing because that hasn’t fixed it. They will want to move on.

“Caution is the right word here. Given this has flared up again, they will be inclined to be more cautious, not less. In terms of timelines, unless he responds incredibly quickly and very differently than last time around, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a similar time frame and similar time lost as we saw last time.”

Sesko, 23, has returned two goals in the six appearances he’s made since 2026/2027 got underway.
