There's some great news in the air. An Englishman is coming back to Liverpool.

The Reds have a long season ahead of them yet. Andoni Iraola has started well as Liverpool manager and there is no denying that even after a couple of disappointing results, Liverpool are in a good position.

Iraola has led them to the quarter-finals of the League Cup, he's secured three wins in four games in the Champions League and the Reds are also in contention for the top four spots in the Premier League.

At the start of the season when the club will have outlined their ambitions for the current campaign those would have been the goals they wanted Iraola to achieve.

Competing for some domestic silverware, doing well in the Champions League and securing a top four spot will count as a successful debut campaign for the Spaniard.

Liverpool's long-term plans under Iraola

Rome was not built in a day, and Liverpool's hierarchy will realise that this squad is also in need of a rebuild and much needed ammunition.

The next few transfer windows will define the long-term fate of the club. The Reds' new sporting director Julian Ward will have a lot of pressure on his shoulders to get the key decisions when it comes to recruitment right.

Liverpool will also be aware of the fact that Iraola takes time to get going. At Bournemouth he initially struggled as manager before leading them on an unbeaten run and helping them to their best ever finish in his second season at the club.

The same is possible at Liverpool. That is clearly the long-term plan of the hierarchy. But patience needs to be practised.

Joshua Abe is coming back to Liverpool

During the start of his career, Iraola has also had to contend with injuries here and there. He's having to navigate the difficult situation in the right-back position with the club's first choice Conor Bradley still ruled out and far away from returning.

Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni are also long-term absentees. The Reds will hope they will be back as soon as possible.

But another young superstar in the making in Joshua Abe has also been away due to an injury that he picked up in the summer.

Abe spent pre-season with the first-team before suffering an injury that has ruled him out for several months.

However, the 16-year-old seems to be on his way back. He has been called-up to England's U17 national team for their games this month, which means he is likely very close to being match fit.

Considering he is Liverpool's only natural right-winger, his return will be incredible news for Iraola.
