Henderson shines as Chelsea bounce back by thrashing Bournemouth
Chelsea responded emphatically to their pre-international break defeat at Brentford with a 5-1 thrashing of Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.
Jordan Henderson scored twice, including a stunning free-kick, as Xabi Alonso’s side climbed to fifth in the early Premier League table.
Chelsea made a flying start, taking the lead after just 65 seconds when Henderson curled in off the post following good work from Cole Palmer.
Morgan Rogers doubled the advantage less than a minute later, with his effort deflecting off Antonio Silva and into the far corner as Chelsea went 2-0 up inside two-and-a-half minutes.
Bournemouth threatened before half-time when Rayan was denied by Emi Martinez, but Chelsea struck again just 30 seconds after the restart. Silva’s error allowed Pedro Neto to set up Joao Pedro, who fired home.
Evanilson pulled one back following a scramble from a set-piece, but Chelsea quickly restored control.
Joao Pedro grabbed his second from Pep Chavarria’s cross before Henderson completed the scoring with a superb free-kick to seal an emphatic victory.
