“He just needs time”: Emery tips in-form Nicolas Jackson to become one of the Premier League’s best

Unai Emery has said Nicolas Jackson only needs 'time' to become one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

Jackson has scored six goals in his last six appearances for Aston Villa, with the summer signing finding his goalscoring form in recent weeks.

The Senegal international scored both goals as Aston Villa beat Manchester City 2-1 in the Premier League last weekend.

Jackson's all-action performances see him lead all Premier League forwards for accurate crosses and offensive duels won per 90 minutes, while he ranks second for key passes, successful dribbles, and progressive carries.

Jackson joined Villa after a frustrating spell at Chelsea, which included a loan move to Bayern Munich last season after falling out of favour.

The 25-year-old reunited with former Villarreal manager Emery at Villa Park, and the latter has been delighted by his impact.

Asked what Jackson needs to become one of the league's leading forwards, Emery backed the forward to get to that status with time.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Fulham, Emery said: "Time. High demands of himself in his everyday tasks. I am happy with him but I also know he has a lot to do as well to try to get better and be more consistent."
