Kai Havertz credited Declan Rice for his match-winning goal after the Gunners secured their first Premier League victory at Anfield in 14 years.

Havertz turned home Rice’s low cross in the 16th minute to earn Mikel Arteta’s side a 1-0 win over Liverpool and move them three points clear at the top of the table.

But the Arsenal forward insisted the majority of the credit belonged to Rice for his role in creating the decisive goal.

“I think you know 90 per cent of the goal belongs to that man,” Havertz told Sky Sports.

“I think we all know his right foot, and today he was there, brilliant overlap and perfect cross.

“And for me, it was an easy tap-in. And as I said, I think that goal definitely belongs to him.”

Arsenal then defended their advantage to bounce back from their shock midweek Carabao Cup defeat at Fleetwood and secure a landmark victory at Anfield.

The Gunners had not won a Premier League game at Liverpool since 2012, and Havertz admitted ending that run meant a great deal to the club.

“It means a lot to the whole football club,” he said.

“I think we just saw it before the game. I think it’s been 14 years.

“It’s a crazy stat, and I think that’s what the fans deserve and I think we’re all happy that we gave it to them again.”
