Liverpool made big improvements to their frontline over the summer.

While the Reds had to contend with the loss of Mohamed Salah they moved decisively for Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz.

With Alexander Isak recovering his form - and Hugo Ekitike in the hunt to return from injury - all of a sudden Andoni Iraola is looking at his options very favourably up top.

There is Rio Ngumoha as well as Cody Gakpo to factor in - while Lewis Koumas has proven to be a useful addition to the first-team squad too.

What that means is uncertainty over some players already on the books - not least Federico Chiesa.

Federico Chiesa is wanted by Inter

The Italian, 29, joined Liverpool back in 2024 on a £12.5m deal from Juventus. The Euro 2020 winner secured a contract until 2028 - but so far it’s been a miserable time on Merseyside for Chiesa.

Although he can count himself a Premier League title winner things haven’t gone to plan for the former Fiorentina attacker.

He has been injured or unavailable for a lot of his time at Anfield thus far - and has rarely pulled up any trees on the occasions he’s featured in the first team.

It was speculated over the summer that he would be moving to Inter Milan - so long as the Nerazzurri got rid of Luis Henrique. Alas Cristian Chivu was unable to move on his Brazilian winger - meaning Chiesa stayed.

Talks resume for Inter - Chiesa deal

A report in Tutto Mercato Web however is now claiming that a January deal to take Chiesa to Inter is ON. Talks have been resumed in recent days between the parties - meaning Chiesa could soon be free to kickstart his career in Serie A.

“In recent days, Inter have inquired about long-time favourite Federico Chiesa, who could leave Liverpool in January to return to Serie A and relaunch his career after a difficult period in England,” the report reads.

Chiesa is reported to be making around £5m per annum at Liverpool - wage demands beyond the capabilities of most Italian sides. Factor in a transfer fee and very quickly the prospect of a deal disappears for the Italian champions.

Nonetheless the report adds that Chivu’s side are plotting a LOAN for Chiesa - a deal which would have a favourable outcome for all parties involved.

“A loan deal until June is a viable solution, satisfying the needs of both parties.”

What becomes of Chiesa beyond summer remains to be seen - when he will have one year left on his deal.
