Gakpo reflects on ‘hectic’ summer in which he came close to leaving Liverpool
Cody Gakpo insists his focus has been unaffected by coming close to leaving Liverpool during what he described as a “hectic” summer.
The forward remained at Anfield after a period of uncertainty over his future, with Manchester City close to signing the Dutchman at the end of the window.
“No, not really,” Gakpo said when asked whether the situation had affected him, however.
“I think my mindset stays the same, like it always has been. Try to perform.
“But yeah, it was quite a hectic summer regarding a lot of topics so I just try to enjoy my football and my life.
Asked about his discussions with the club, he said: “It was not much of a discussion. The decision was made and that was it.”
Looking forward, Gakpo says he is excited by what is to come from Liverpool’s attacking group , which has been added to with several big-money signings over the past year.
“I think there’s a lot of potential,” he said.
“I think everybody showed it already individually at times either at the club or another club, like Bradley (Barcola), he showed brilliance for PSG.
“We have to get to know each other very well and from that moment on, it can only be better than it is already now.
“So only good things and positive things moving forward.”
