Florian Wirtz "wants" to exit Liverpool in order to return to Germany with giants Bayern Munich, according to Mick Brown.
Wirtz has failed to live up to his £116.5million price tag at Liverpool. The attacking midfielder had seven goals and nine assists in all competitions on his debut season, and six games into his second, he's assisted only once.
Faith in him is beginning to dwindle, and there have been suggestions that a move back to Germany could be best.
Per former Premier League scout Brown, Wirtz would be open to that route.
Brown told Football Insider: "The main problem for Wirtz is he has seemingly struggled to adapt to the Premier League.
"He hasn't got to grips with the physicality or the tempo of things, that's why most of his better performances for Liverpool have been in European competitions.
"It's a difficult situation for them to be in because of the money they spent on him, but from the player's point of view, it wouldn't surprise me to see him go back to Germany.
"I'm sure, if an offer was to come in, then he'd want to join Bayern Munich because he would be a much better fit for the way they play.
"He could go back to a league where he is familiar, he knows he can play at a high level, and they know he can perform at his best.
"So as I say, from the player's point of view, it's something that I'm sure he would be keen to do because it makes a lot of sense, even if it might be difficult for Liverpool."
Bayern Munich wanted Florian Wirtz in 2025
When Wirtz left Bayer Leverkusen in 2025, he had three options - Liverpool, Bayern and Real Madrid. Of course, he opted for the Reds, Real wanted to sign him given his former Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso was at the helm, while it seemed Bayern felt he was too much.
But having failed to impress at Liverpool, it seems likely Wirtz's price tag will have dropped markedly from what the Reds paid for him.
That could put him in the ballpark Bayern would likely be happier with, and could mean a transfer is viable.
The less he performs, the lower his price will go, and the German giants will have a decision to make, if Wirtz continues to struggle, over whether it's worth signing a player who's long struggled for form.
